LOS ANGELES (AP) — A measure that would limit the number of medical marijuana shops in Los Angeles was getting strong approval from voters as two others faltered after early returns Tuesday night. With about a quarter of the projected vote counted, Proposition D — which would cap the number of pot shops at 135 and raise taxes slightly — was getting nearly 65 percent of the vote. The measure, which earned the endorsement of several City Council members, is one of three on the city ballot aimed at providing the legal framework for an industry that has flourished. Proposition E was far behind as expected with less than 40 percent approval because its backers threw their support behind the very similar Proposition D.
